In a town known for breweries, one can expect to find equally savory food, and what goes best with beer... burgers! There always seems to be one problem... there's so many to choose from! Almost every food lot or restaurant in Bend offers some variety of this classic entree. So where do you start? We have put together a list of our favorites to help you narrow down your decision, or better yet, try them all. (This is an ongoing list as it will probably take a year to compile, and please, comments and suggestions are welcome).
Update 6/23/23
Might have a new favorite... Americana cart at The Podski! Holy moley the OG and Jalapeño Popper burgers are amazing! Not big and thick like some of the other burgers in town but the flavor is mouthwatering! And they have punch cards?! Finally! Food punch cards!
Update 5/29/23
Memorial Day ONLY Special!
It's too late for this year, but next year the SMASH BURGER at GOODLIFE BREWING is a must! Not sure why they only serve this mouth-watering sleeper (doesn't look special) on Memorial Day, but maybe that's what makes it so special! Mark the calendar for 2024, and maybe take a Yellow Brew Bus ride so you can enjoy a few of their award winning beers! (Don't forget to check out the beautiful Pearl Jam art on the walls too.)
- Sunriver Brewing, Bend Westside (Galveston)
Get your napkins ready for this one. So far the juiciest, most mouthwatering, my-mouth-is-salivating-while-typing-this burger of the lot! Introducing the Bacon Brew Burger. Not a fancy name, run of the mill really, but this burger has what it takes to go the distance. Natural beef, smoke gouda, beer onions, pepper bacon, baby arugula, tomato, Dijon, roasted garlic aioli, on a jalapeno cheddar bun and served with fries, fruit, soup, or field greens. And for those vegetarians and vegans an Impossible burger may be substituted, however the bacon and cheese removed for the vegan purists. Hands down the best burger in Bend... so far.
*Update 4/11/24 I love downhill... skis, bikes, sleds... but not The Bacon Brew Burger! Unfortunately this burger has gone downhill and totally different from the one raved about above, completely falling off the list of Best Burger. Wonder who makes these choices? But the beer is still amazing!
- Brother Jon's Ale House, Downtown Bend (Wall Street)
Lord have mercy, a portobello burger made the top two! You heard right, the Portobello burger might also take the title for sloppiest burger which I love! While you may be asking, "Where's the beef?!" it won't take you long to forget about the beef as you strap on your bib and let your taste buds whisk you away with a grilled marinated Portobello, roasted bell peppers, wilted spinach, crispy fried onions, provolone and pesto mayo on a Big Ed's potato roll! At only $13 this burger is one of the cheapest on our list. Served with kettle chips or sub vegetables with ranch, fries, tots, soup, or salad. Bacon and avocado can also be added, but trust me, you will have your mouthful with this one!
-Boneyard Pub, Bend (Division Street)
Looking for a great burger at a great price? Look no further than Boneyard's locals day every Wednesday. This burger may not be at the top of the list, but your wallet and taste buds will not regret it. Not only are the beers only $5, but the Pulp-Fiction-infamous Royale with Cheese is a double patty burger for only $10. It is topped with American cheese, pickle, lettuce, tomato, and royal sauce on a Sparrow Bakery brioche bun. Yes, of course you can add bacon, and for only $2. Served with kettle chips or as always upgrade to fries or salad. BTW since when did burgers stop coming with fries?
